Board of Directors

Mark Creede
President
Elected in 2018

Mark was born in Fresno and raised just blocks from Sunnyside Country Club. He has enjoyed the Club over most of his lifetime, first as the son of a member and then as a member himself since 1988. After graduating from the School of Engineering at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, he worked as a construction engineer and later as engineering manager at Johnson Controls, Inc., San Francisco branch, for six years while studying law at night at the University of San Francisco. After completing law school and passing the Bar Exam, he moved with his family back to Fresno in 1988 to work as an attorney at Lang, Richert & Patch; specializing in construction law, where he remains today as Managing Partner of the firm.

From his fond childhood memories of Family Days at the Club, playing high school golf at Sunnyside CC as his school's home course, and more than 32 years as a member himself, Mark understands and cherishes our Club's unique and treasured culture known as "The Sunnyside Way." As a member of the Board and now, Board President, Mark is committed to ensuring that our Membership has the best golf course, facilities, and service around; and to preserve our culture and camaraderie as we continue on our promising second-century journey ahead.

Bill Barry
Golf Committee
Elected in 2020

From the moment that Bill drove through the gates of Sunnyside, it was a very welcoming experience with every member he came in contact with, as well as the amazing staff. As he entered the Clubhouse, one couldn't help but see and feel the specialness of Sunnyside, as noted by its long history and culture that adorns the walls. These were the driving factors for Bill to join Sunnyside in 2010.

Bill's family roots to the Valley date back over 100 years, so he was grateful to have a job transfer that brought him back home in 1989 to raise his family. He is currently a Regional Account Specialist for Western US, Primal Pet Foods. He is happily married to his wife, Michelle, since 1986, who is the Premium Seating Coordinator at the Savemart Center. They have two beautiful children - Clint and Kaitlyn, both proud graduates of Fresno State; and most recently have been blessed with three adorable grandchildren - Khloe, Addeline and Ella, who keep them busy.

After ten years of being a Sunnyside member, he is honored to be on the Board of Director's where he longs to continue the tradition of being the "Friendliest Club in the Valley" and providing the best golf and social experience possible.

Kent Hamlin
Membership Committee |
Golf Committee
Elected in 2020

Kent grew up down the street from Sunnyside Country Club as part of a golfing family -- at one time all five of them had single-digit handicaps. His mother won the club championship at Sunnyside 10 times, and his sister played professionally for decades. Kent settled here after law school with his wife, Kathy, who quickly learned to play golf. They always knew that they would join Sunnyside once they had the time and money to enjoy the Club. When his parents could no longer enjoy golf they took their membership in 1999 through the legacy progarm and his children, Charles (Eric) and Rachel, had the priviledge of growing up here just like Kent.

Recently retiring after 21 years as a Superior Court Judge, and although he plans to work part time starting in 2021 as a mediator and criminal defense attorney, he is now freed of any conflicts that may arise as a member of the Board. The dedication of the staff, board and members, particularly in their extraordinary efforts to save the Club after the financial crisis of 2008, inspired Kent to take a leadership role at Sunnyside. He loves this Club and its membership. With his focus on the Board to be encouraging members of all ages to enjoy and protect the beautiful golf course and recently remodeled facilities. Kent knows we have something special at Sunnyside and is honored to a part of it.

Rich Yrulegui
House Committee | Greens Committee
Elected in 2020

Rich was born and raised here locally, and is a third generation Fresnoid. He attended San Joaquin Memorial High School graduatting in 1965, on to Fresno State graduating in 1969, and then he continued his education at University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, earning his law degree in 1972.

After practicing law for 41 years, Rich decided it was time to retire. He turned the practice over to his son and partner, where he then began focusing on learning his true passion - golf. When he joined Sunnyside in the early 90's, he wasn't able to find the time to play regularly. Retired life has improved his golf swing and brough a since of camaraderie when he joined the End of the Bar Gang. Rich and his wife, Carol, have two adult children each, and seven grandchildren, mostly locally, but also in Chicago and Colorado Springs. They enjoy travelling to visit them as mush as possible.

Rich chose to join Sunnyside primarily because of the people and culture of the course. He considers our Club to be the "friendliest" and most "socially accepting" course in the area. A club he is proud to be a member of such a diverse and friendly crowd that he hopes he can be a positive contributor now as a member of the Board.
